Civic maturity does not only mean coming of age and obtaining the right to vote, but it also, and more importantly, means gaining awareness of the environment that we live in. This environment is defined as a social reality, as a set of rules, and, increasingly, as an ecosystem to be protected so that the coexistence of man and nature can become a synergy of the two. For this reason, the CSV VDA, on the occasion of the traditional DonoDay, has decided to celebrate the Civic Maturity of the 18-year-olds by offering them a Sprout® Pencil. A significant thought to encourage the civic conscience of the youngest to also think about environmental issues.
The CSV DonoDay: moments to share and reflect together
The CSV – Aosta Valley Solidarity Coordination – supports and promotes the activities of the associations in the Aosta Valley by managing a service center for volunteering that allows the enhancement of active citizenship and solidarity works.
Among the many activities supported by the CSV, the DonoDay VDA certainly stands out. It is an event aimed, on the one hand, at promoting collaboration between voluntary associations and, on the other, to discover different and varied realities, carefully selected for each edition. These represent the main theme of the event, which is made up of several smaller events, so that everyone can take place – always with an eye to inclusivity.
Civic Maturity – A passage to be celebrated in the name of responsibility
2021 marked an important transition for the DonoDay, which was held with the intention to celebrate the restart after the Covid emergency, and to remember with gratitude all those who dedicated themselves to help overcome these difficult times, from healthcare professionals to institutions, obviously without forgetting active citizens. Among the main events held in collaboration with the Municipality of Aosta, an example is the show held at the Splendor Theater in Aosta hosted on October 3rd where the mathematician, singer, and showman Lorenzo Baglioni enlivened an evening dedicated to the awareness of what it means to be active citizens.
For the 18-year-olds, this offered not only a debate on civic engagement and the many possibilities this can offer to young people, but also the access to an online test to find out “what kind of volunteer you are”, and a unique environmentally friendly souvenir. The Sprout® Pencil, a symbol not only of sustainability, but also of the future, and of civic participation.
The customized Sprout® Pencil for the DonoDay of 18-year-olds
Sprout® Pencil is the special pencil that can be planted and grown, thanks to a biodegradable capsule containing seeds that is built in at one of its ends. Once you finished using the pencil, simply plant it in soil on the side containing the capsule, provide it with plenty of water and natural light, you will see it sprout in just a few weeks. A gift to take care of, that is alive and grows; the symbolic meaning that led to choosing this gadget as a gift for 18-year-olds is evident. And it is no coincidence that CSV asked iGreen for a special customization: “Lascia un segno anche tu” (“You too can leave a mark”), an invitation for all young citizens to become part of the social fabric through commitment in every field, even that, more and more important, of environmental sustainability.
