The iGreen Sprout® Pencil becomes a rainbow for the Luxembourg Pride Week

Inclusion, equality, sustainability. Three values to be promoted, encouraged, and reasonably proud of, right? Absolutely! And it is precisely for this reason that one of the main gadgets of Luxembourg pride – Street Fest Esch 2022 was the famous Sprout® Pencil.
Thanks to a collaboration between the Ministère de la Famille, de l’Intégration et à la Grande Région and iGreen Gadgets, the first pencil that can be planted and grown was decorated with a precious rainbow to celebrate the highly anticipated first Luxembourg pride of the post-covid era.

The Street Fest: Luxembourg pride since 1999

Since 1999, the Pride Week in Luxembourg has seen the LGBTQ+ community involved in organizing an event that combines art, culture, commemoration, music and entertainment. A proper week of celebrations that has attracted tourism from all over the world for decades and offers the locals the opportunity to experience festive days immersed in a widespread event that includes various headquarters located throughout the Esch-sur-Alzette area.
The flagship of the Pride Week is the Street Fest, a festival with performances that enliven the entire city center, and which culminates with the Equality March. Fun fact: the Equality March, part of the Luxembourg Pride program since 2015, starts from the French border, making the Luxemburg Pride a cross-border parade, in the full spirit of the Esch2022 ‘Remix Culture’.

What is ‘Remix Culture’ and why are we talking about Esch2022? Esch-sur-Alzette is the second largest city in the Luxembourg area, and was named European Capital of Culture for 2022, promoting a large series of cultural projects that encourage communities to meet and open up by mixing the various cultures. Under the banner of its slogan ‘Remix Culture’, the Street Fest has been extended from one to two days – 9th and 10th July – giving even more space to guests and national and international initiatives.
This is definitely a great way to start over, after a three-year wait. Indeed, due to the Covid19 epidemic, the 2020 edition of Luxembourg pride was held in live streaming, while the 2021 edition took place in a hybrid version, in compliance with safety and public health regulations. It is therefore not surprising that the 2022 edition was welcomed with great enthusiasm by both the population and the institutions.

The Ministère de la Famille, de l’Intégration et à la Grande Région and Sprout® Pencil

The presence of the Ministère de la Famille, de l’Intégration et à la Grande Région was particularly felt. The Ministry participated with a stall held by some collaborators of the «Solidarity» division. The stall made available information material such as leaflets, the «Fun with Flags» game and numerous themed gadgets, from rainbow laces to the Sprout® Pencil customized for the occasion, and a truly original concept.
The Sprout® Pencil is the first pencil with integrated seeds that can be planted and grown. In one of its ends there is a small biodegradable capsule containing seeds of flowers or aromatic herbs. Once the pencil has been used, it is sufficient to plant it in soil from the side of the capsule and, offering it plenty of water and sunlight, seedling will sprout in a few weeks.
What is the message? Well, it could only be inclusive, global and sustainable: growing flowers of all colors!
